A visit from Jil

Hi Bob,
I just want to tell you all at Kotare village how impressed I am with
what you are doing there.

Attending the Hui on March the 10th showed me how the organisation works
and how much work has already been done. It was good to learn more about
the structures being put in place and to meet other interested visitors.
I feel particularly positive about how the children are intergrated into
daily life and how independent and contented they are. It was a real
pleasure to supervise them at the creek (with mud wallow)!

A visit from Chester and Valery

Given that part of the vision of the Kotare Village is to be a
self-sustaining community far outside the sprawling reach of Auckland,
my family and I had some time to discuss the unknown adventure we were
about to embark on as we drove South toward our first Hui.  Naturally we
were excited, but also a bit nervous as we had no idea what to expect of
the outcome from our eight-hour trip that naturally included a few stops
along the way.

As we finally reached Wairoa and then drove through Frasertown on our
way to Kotare Road, the sun quickly sank in the Western sky and we were
greeted with an early Autumn shower.  “Looks like we’ll be setting up
camp with the headlights,” I grimaced to Valery as we anxiously
descended upon the farm.  Once there we were greeted by Nicki who had
popped her head out of her family’s 20-foot shipping container that
serves as the family’s kitchen and lounge area, yet retains all the
warmth of any home we’d ever peeked into.  Her husband Shane, a builder
who’d clearly put some time and effort into the family’s home, helped us
sort out a place to pitch our tent, and we quickly got to work erecting
our camp for the next two days.

A lovely letter

Recently we had a visit from one of three sons, who was checking us out, for a place for his Mum to 'retire' to.  Probably not quite the right word, she sounds pretty active  - however you know what I mean.  After his visit, we had a lovely letter, and I thought I'd share it with you.

Hi Bob,

A Hallelujah Moment!

It was a Hallelujah moment! Bob and I unveiled the legal structure of Kotare Village, presenting this to the "core group" of our village settlers, to whom Bob had promised nearly a year ago to bring forward the legal shape through which our dream would be realised. Quite a big deal, and the result of months and months of work on Bob's behalf. On many levels, more like years. A huge acknowledgement must also be given to Stephen, Bob's lawyer, for countless hours of research, writing, consultation and communication.

Permaculture in Jordan

Update from Kay
Kia Ora, It’s a while since we have sent out a newsletter , not through lack of interest but because we have been extremely busy. We have done and achieved a lot over the past couple of months so we’ll catch up now.

Update from Franzi and Taiamai

Update from From Franzi and Taiamai

From Franzi
Spring has finally arrived here at Kotare Village. For the last 3 weeks I have been finding it very hard to stay inside and do work for my distance delivery art diploma with the Learning Connexion! Instead the garden and sunshine beckon and I spend as much time as possible in the small spring garden behind our caravan while enjoying bare feet and short sleeves. Now we have lettuce, parsley, coriander, peas, beets and more growing happily outside our ‘bedroom window’ – unfortunately the snails and slugs are finding some of them very delicious as well after a hard winter!
